Taking the PBFR course, I came away with a new modality to use safely with my patients the following day. The hands-on labs allowed me to be confident applying these skills. It was invaluable to feel what patients experience while exercising with the BFR cuff activated.

Susan was passionate and knowledgeable in delivering the most up-to-date research in PBFR. She was accommodating when later I stopped by her clinic for clarification on the unit operation. The manual is a great resource and consolidated the benefits, and physiological reasoning behind the science. Thank you Susan for introducing me to a new innovative approach to treatment.

ORS Course FAQs

What are the course objectives?

Personalized Blood Flow Restriction Rehabilitation (PBFR) is a paradigm shifting intervention for the rehabilitation professional with over 160 peer-reviewed articles in the scientific literature.

By applying a tourniquet briefly and intermittently to an exercising limb you can induce significant and substantial strength, hypertrophy and endurance changes while using a very light load.

In our specialized course, clinicians will:
• Understand the history and scientific theory behind PBFR
• Learn to manipulate protocols to create a local or systemic response
• Understand tourniquet use and safety
• Learn how to determine individual limb occlusion pressures
• Learn to apply PBFR to rehabilitating patients

What should I expect at a course?

The certification course is part didactic and lab. The course is 8.5 hours in length with approximately 60% instruction and 40% lab. The clinician will learn to understand the science behind personalized blood flow restriction rehabilitation (PBFR) training and how to apply PBFR in the clinical setting

Can we have Susan do an on-site PBFR training course at our clinic, athletic team or hospital setting?

Yes. It may be more cost effective to train your entire staff on-site rather than send multiple clinicians to a certification course.

PBFR has made a huge difference in the Return to Performance strategies for our athletes. It has enhanced our high performance environment by providing an avenue of training that is safe, and effective in the acute and early period of injury/surgical recovery.

It has been by far, the most effective in maintaining and rebuilding muscle bulk, and an extremely well received intervention by the athletes. Our players are grateful for a way to train and counter atrophy in their injury return.
